|Hello, Kenny, and welcome to this month's issue of "Piano Monthly"|

believe the key to accomplishing that is providing you with good
information on local events, concerts, workshops, recitals - all the
news that is news in the Kentuckiana piano community. We invite
you to join us in this critical effort. Find us on Facebook.
Follow us on Twitter. Watch us on YouTube. Get involved and
help us build the next generation of music makers. Who
knows? You might even see yourself in one of these stories...
|The Evolution of the Piano|
you ever wondered what Beethoven heard when he played Moonlight Sonata
for the first time? Did you know that early pianos were
designed to match the women's fashion of their era? Can you
identify the middle pedal? These questions and more will be the
topic of a very special series of National Piano Month workshops.
Libin, Former Curator of Instruments for the New York Metropolitan
Museum of Art, will be your guide as you explore the fascinating history
IN PICTURES of the piano and its incredible role in shaping the music
of today. You'll hear rare recordings of pianos built in the
Beethoven era and earlier. You'll learn why pianos have 88 keys, 3
pedals, and their iconic curved shape. You'll even witness a
captivating multi-media presentation - exposing you to the sights and
sounds of pianos around the World! Don't miss this rare
opportunity to explore the art, the history, and the culture surrounding
the piano in a way ONLY Laurence Libin can show you.
The first workshop (Monday, August 27 at 7pm) will take place at Gist Piano Center in Louisville. The second (Tuesday, August 28 at 6pm) will be held in the Lexington Gist Piano Center showroom. Admission for both events is $5.00 per person (PIE teachers, students and families get in FREE). For info, call James at (502) 451-1831.
