Retired school teacher and professional pianist, J.D. is the co-owner and piano instructor at Folsom Academy of the Arts. FAOTA offers instruction in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, pointe, technique, musical theatre, and private voice and piano lessons. J.D. as served as the former Corresponding Secretary and Executive Board Member of GLMTA and co-chairman for GLMTA Student Workshop Committee. As the a Piano Guild Adjudications Judge in Indianapolis, Evansville, and Lexington, J.D. as served as judge for various school talent shows, pageants, state fairs, and musical competitions. Many of his students have won local, state and national awards, including Grand Prize Winner in the 2008 Coca-Cola Talent Classic at The Kentucky State Fair. J.D. believes that it is important that every student succeeds and teaches by the motto of, “My best for your best.”
J.D. received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Samford University in Birmingham, AL in 1966. He went on to earn a Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of Louisville in 1973 and a Secondary Principalship Certification from University of Louisville in 1975.
J.D. offers private piano lessons on a variety of levels. Whether you are a youngster, young at heart, a brand new beginner or well on your way to becoming a concert pianist, J.D. structures weekly lessons to meet the individual student's needs. The syllabus for the enrolled student is based on his/her natural ability, previous training, experience, desire to study and artistic goals. J.D. teaches scale, arpeggio and chord exercises to improve strength and dexterity as well as pieces for study and/or performance.
