About Judy Carmichael
“I Love Being Here With You” is Judy’s first all-vocal CD and her first time giving the piano duties to someone else, in this case the great Mike Renzi, who played for Mel Torme, Peggy Lee and the Muppets. He is also famous as the Music Director for Sesame Street. “People who know my music think of me as the gal who plays upbeat, energetic, stride piano,” said Carmichael. “A few of my close pals know I’m also a fan of juicy ballads, early musicals, cheeky lyrics and swingin’ standards. This recording gave me a chance to connect with these other areas of my musical passions.”
The CD "Come and Get It" marks Carmichael's debut as a vocalist of uncommon nuance and intelligence. A longtime specialist in the music of Fats Waller, her show at the Galt House will feature several selections of his cannon including "Minor Drag" and the playfully suggestive title number (“Come and Get It”) as well as the rarely recorded early hit for Peggy Lee "All The Cats" - featuring recently written lyrics by singer, actress and songwriter Jessica Molaskey. The program is rounded out by timeless standards such as "Love Is Just Around the Corner,” "You're Driving Me Crazy" and an inspired take on the rollicking Andy Razaf classic "Christopher Columbus."
A native of California, Judy Carmichael moved to New York in the early 80's and has maintained a busy concert schedule throughout the world ever since. She has toured for the United States Information Agency throughout India, Portugal, Brazil and Singapore. In 1992 Ms. Carmichael was the first jazz musician sponsored by the United States Government to tour China.
Also a respected radio host and producer, Judy's groundbreaking public radio show "Jazz Inspired" is broadcast on over 170 stations throughout North America and abroad. “Jazz Inspired” is also broadcast on the NPR channel (Channlle 134) of Sirius XM Satellite Radio. The show - currently celebrating its 15th anniversary - presents celebrated artists from a variety of mediums and engages these artists in discussions about their creative process and how their passion for jazz has inspired their work. Guests, such as actor Robert Redford, director Christopher Guest and former President Bill Clinton, share their favorite recordings as well as insight into their lives and art.
