GIST PIANO CENTER TO HOST WORKSHOP WITH NATIONALLY-RENOWNED COMPOSER
LOUISVILLE, KY, July 24 - Gist Piano Center in Louisville is partnering with Alfred Music Publishing to host a workshop with nationally-renowned piano pedagogue and composer Dennis Alexander. Area piano teachers have been invited to join Alexander for a clinic exploring Effective and Efficient Practice in piano students, where they will discover techniques and materials to revitalize studios and strengthen the musical development of their students. Effective and Efficient Practice will focus on ways to motivate students to save time in each lesson with the proper techniques, exercises, and technologies for learning.
The workshop, which will be hosted at Gist Piano Center’s Louisville headquarters, will provide a unique opportunity for area teachers to interface with and learn from one of the leading figures in piano pedagogy today. At the clinic, teachers will explore how to incorporate artistic development and musicality into students’ practice time, enable students to use practice procedures to develop a secure technical foundation, and apply a variety of practice techniques to specific repertoire. The clinic is also part of a nationwide pedagogical series produced by Alfred Music Publications featuring other noteworthy composers and pedagogues, including Melody Bober, Tom Gerou, and Carol Matz, among others.
Dennis Alexander is well known for his work with Alfred Music Publications, including his role in developing the Alfred Premier Piano Course. Alexander has been partnered with Alfred Music since 1986. Before joining Alfred, Dennis served on the faculty at the University of Montana for 24 years, teaching piano and piano pedagogy. As well, he has served as Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge. His piano compositions are prominently featured on syllabi throughout North America, notably the National Federation of Music Clubs, and his music is enjoyed by students of all ages throughout the world.
Clinics such as these are an integral part of Gist Piano Center’s Partners In Education (PIE) program, whose mission is to empower and equip area piano teachers with the training and resources they need in order to enable their students to thrive in music.
Dennis Alexander’s Effective and Efficient Practice clinic will take place at Gist Piano Center in Louisville, Kentucky on July 24, 2013 at 9:00 AM.
