Lexington Piano Student Takes Home First-Ever "GisTony Award"
LEXINGTON, Ky., May 21 – After a month of fierce competition, Gist Piano Center’s “Give My Regards to Broadway” Facebook contest has come to a close and Gist Piano Center is proud to award the “Gistony” trophy and a $50 Gist Certificate to Lexington piano student, Arnav Dharmagadda. With over 90 votes, Arnav’s piano act was selected by Facebook fans, audience members, friends and family as part of Gist Piano Center’s “Give My Regards to Broadway” theater-themed recital.
Featuring musical acts from across the Blue Grass State, “Give My Regards to Broadway” spanned the history of American Musical Theatre as seen through the eyes of today’s children. Each variety show-style act included a full Broadway costume, an American show tune and a number of “tongue-in-cheek” surprises that delighted audience members of all ages.
“’Give My Regards to Broadway’ is an oddball variety show that brings to life the treasured memories of American Musical Theatre in a way that only Gist Piano Center can,” said Heather McGriff, Public Relations Manager for Gist. “We made people laugh, cry and feel feelings in ways they didn’t even know they could!”
Student performers autographed Broadway-style play bills for their show and each student went home with a commemorative, signed play bill. After the show, the audience was invited to visit Gist Piano Center Lexington’s Facebook page where they could vote alongside the performers, their friends and family members for their favorite Broadway act.
Give My Regards to Broadway is the latest in a series of theme recitals designed by Gist Piano Center to give Lexington students fun and informal performance opportunities. “Piano study can be a lonely affair,” said John Gist. “Nothing motivates a piano student like seeing live performances by other students their own age. It’s important to give learners a fun and informal environment to play in.”
Participants in Give My Regards to Broadway are members of Gist Piano Center’s Partners In Education Program (PIE). PIE is a collaborative effort between the local music store and Kentuckiana piano educators designed to enhance the teaching experience, to provide students with meaningful musical memories, and to give families the information they need to make good decisions regarding their child’s music education.
